Trevor Jones  Executive Director

“Is it too much to believe that we stand at the edge of a promised land— one comprised of our greatest hopes? Is it too much to imagine that these promises we hold in our heart are not our own imaginations, but ones given to us by God? What God has put on our heart, let us eagerly seek, being fully expectant that he will fulfill: Let us be fully convinced that his word and promises are not just about some ancient people or distant ones to come, but for us.”

This is the declaration with which Trevor Jones is challenging himself and his staff as he enters his 10th year of service at Kodiak Baptist Mission (KBM).

Expanding on this statement, Jones offers: “When serving at a ministry with more than 100 years of history, present-day relevancy must stand in concert with the past. Staying true to our heritage, we reach out to meet the needs of today.”

Programs originally designed for times of crisis are now instruments of prevention. “We work with children in the formative years, building a Christ-centered foundation that will serve them for a lifetime,” he says. “There may not be a need for orphanages anymore, but there are now desperate needs for families with young children. Families need to know there are places and people that care about their children and their children’s futures as much as they do.”

Today KBM serves more than 150 kids daily in preschool and after-school programs. In addition, it operates Kodiak’s local food bank. KBM is poised to enter a new phase of development. It has taken on a satellite mission in the village of Ouzinkie and is finishing construction of its new heritage center. This is the most significant facility development for the mission since it was rebuilt on its present location in 1937 after a devastating fire,

In addition to directing the core work of KBM, Jones has pursued a personal interest in rekindling the Evangel Boat Ministry of old. Years of running the mission’s boats have earned him a U.S. Coast Guard 100 Ton Masters License of Steam or Motor Vessel. The mission boat Diakonos is a vital dimension of support to the Ouzinkie Mission and a true gift from God.

When opportunity permits, Jones enjoys back-country skiing in the mountains of Kodiak and seeing God’s world through the eyes of his two and four year old daughters with is wife Rebecca.
