A Summer of Adventure, Spiritual Growth and Service

Each summer young adults join us from all over the country to serve in active ministry at Kodiak Baptist Mission. These individuals are asked to leave their normal day to day routine, walk by faith and become short term Missionaries to the island of Kodiak. Our Summer Staff take on the role of counselors, instructors and student. They staff Island Summer Adventures, a dynamic child care alternative for families with children entering grades 1st through 8th. They spend much of their day interacting with these children as they share and show their love for Jesus Christ. Camp runs summer long, Monday through Friday beginning each morning at 7:30 AM and concluding at 5:30 PM. Staff plan activities, bible based mentor times and instruct a variety of camps that help lead kids in the adventure of a Christ filled life.

Staff are also students. While spending five hours a day in active ministry to the children they also commit three hours daily in prayer, study, discipleship, and Christ centered training. Our goal is to help develop these individual’s personal relationship with Jesus Christ by equipping them with a host of resources that will serve as tools in their life long Christian journey.

Kodiak Baptist Mission sits on 30 beautiful acres in Kodiak, Alaska. Room and board are provided for our summer staff. They can expect to live in a residence hall setting with at least one roommate. Commons areas are provided with internet access, fitness facility, and lounge. Meals are prepared Monday through Friday for staff and kitchens are stocked with plenty of food for the weekends.

Throughout the course of the summer staff will have the opportunity to enjoy the wonderful island of Kodiak. Weekends will be structured for staff to fellowship and unite as a team. Backpacking, river and ocean fishing, kayaking, and surrounding island camping trips are some of the awe-inspiring activities staff participates in. Along with personal trips staff will be expected to participate in some weekend group activities. This time is set aside for staff development, continued training, and spiritual renewal.

Staff can also expect to do some boat travel while serving at Kodiak Baptist Mission. Ouzinkie, a small village near Kodiak is one of our Mission sites and is about a 90 minute ride from harbor to harbor. This location provides a unique retreat setting for teaching, study and reflection. Staff will also provide and lead activities for the children and families there.

A summer spent at Kodiak Baptist Mission will be one of adventure, spiritual growth, and service. Individuals who forgo a “normal” summer and journey to Kodiak will be challenged in a ways they cannot express. However, with these challenges come immense blessings the Lord can only provide.

Please contact us at Kodiak Baptist Mission if you have been called to this type of mission and ministry opportunity. If not, please pass this along to someone the Lord has placed on your heart.
